Insulation Materials Used in Insulated Steel Pipes
Polyurethane Foam (PU Foam)
Offers excellent thermal insulation with low thermal conductivity.
Lightweight and moderate density.
Commonly used for medium to low-temperature pipeline insulation.
Rock Wool
Made from natural rocks melted at high temperatures.
High-temperature resistance, fire retardant, and good corrosion resistance.
Suitable for high-temperature pipe insulation but has higher density and requires moisture protection.
Expanded Polystyrene Foam (EPS)
Lightweight and cost-effective with good insulation properties.
Suitable for low-temperature pipelines but has limited temperature resistance.
Rubber-based Insulation (Elastomeric Foam)
Flexible and elastic with excellent water and moisture resistance.
Often used in medium to low-temperature pipes and HVAC systems.
Glass Wool
Lightweight and good insulating performance.
High moisture absorption, typically requires a vapor barrier.
Inorganic Insulation Materials
Such as calcium silicate.
Suitable for high-temperature environments with high mechanical strength but heavier in weight.
These materials are selected based on the pipeline’s operating temperature, environmental conditions, and economic considerations to achieve optimal insulation performance and cost-effectiveness.
