What TPEP Stands For

TPEP means thermoplastic (polyethylene) exterior plus epoxy (fusion-bonded) interior protection. A steel substrate is first coated inside with FBE (fusion bonded epoxy) for clean, non-toxic flow, then wrapped outside with adhesive and polyethylene for mechanical defense.

The result is a pipe that is hygienic on the inside and armored on the outside—ideal for potable water and abrasive slurry alike.

Coating Structure and Function

Layer one is a fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) film that bonds chemically to steel, blocking under-film corrosion. Layer two is a copolymer adhesive that keys the PE to the FBE. Layer three is high-density polyethylene (PE) that absorbs impact, UV and soil stress.

This sandwich gives TPEP higher impact and abrasion resistance than standard 3PE while keeping a food-safe internal surface.

Standards and Quality Control

Production follows CJ/T 120 (China) and references DIN 30670 / API RP 5L2 for coating practice. Zhantong performs spark testing, coating thickness gauging and peel adhesion checks on every length.

Third-party inspection and holiday detection ensure no pinholes reach the trench, where a single defect becomes a future leak.

Advantages Over Bare and 3PE Pipe

Versus bare steel, TPEP eliminates the dominant failure mode of buried mains. Versus 3PE, the FBE inner layer improves flow and drinking-water compliance while the PE outer layer resists handling damage.
